Second Class 2024/25

Term 2 was a busy and exciting time in Second Class! In January, we explored China, creating and presenting fantastic projects. February brought a visit to Athlone Library, where we enjoyed a sensory storytime and discovered all the library has to offer. We also learned about famous Irish landmarks and the Titanic, creating and presenting projects on the historic ship.

Our focus in writing was procedural writing, and in March, we put it into action by making pancakes for Pancake Tuesday and writing the recipe. We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up and sharing our favorite books. We also learned about Brazil, Pelé, and electricity.

In April, we explored houses and homes, transport in the past, and the butterfly life cycle. Throughout the term, we enjoyed GAA, gymnastics, and athletics in PE. A special milestone was reached on March 10th, when the children made their First Confession. Now, we are looking forward to preparing for our First Holy Communion in May!

Last term, our class were very busy preparing for our Christmas Concert ‘The Angel Who Nearly Missed It All’. We had lots of lines and songs to learn and our parents were delighted with our performance on the day. In November we learnt all about Space and created some magnificent 3-D Space projects at home. We showcased these projects to the whole school and were delighted with the positive feedback from our peers. In the run up to Christmas we did lots of Arts and Crafts. Our class loved making our angels and 3-D Christmas scenes in particular. We loved our stories by the fire with Mr Connolly’s 6th class and our Tráth na gCeist with Ms Dowling’s class. We are all looking to have lots more fun this term.
