Fifth Class 2025/26

The 5th Class have had a wonderfully busy and creative term, filled with hands-on learning, teamwork, and plenty of fun!
Fitness and wellbeing have been a big focus this term. Some children took part in our Cross Country event, showing fantastic determination and team spirit. We’ve also been enjoying Active Breaks throughout the school day — short bursts of movement, dance, and stretching to keep our bodies and minds energised for learning. In Visual Art, the class were inspired by the colourful, bold style of Brazilian artist Romero Britto. Using bright colours, patterns, and expressive lines, each student created their own vibrant artwork that now brings a splash of joy to our displays.
As part of our Geography and SESE work, we took a deep dive into the country of Mexico. The children explored its traditions, landscapes, and culture, learning about everything from ancient Aztec history to modern Mexican celebrations.Science lessons have been full of discovery as we studied The Digestive System and how plants grow. The class enjoyed interactive experiments and models to understand how our bodies process food and gain energy — a fascinating journey from mouth to stomach and beyond! It’s been a term full of curiosity, creativity, and activity. Well done to all of 5th Class for their enthusiasm and hard work!

A Visit from Dr.Lynam

A huge thank you to Conor Lynam (Parent) who gave up his morning to visit all of 5th class to discuss mainly the digestive system but lots of other interesting health topics cropped up during the question and answers after an informative talk. Thanks Conor. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Term 3

5th Class have had a great last term. We were very busy with sports competitions. We congratulate all involved in 5th class with this year’s soccer, gaelic & basketball. It was a very successful year.We enjoyed learning about World War 1, Tourism in Ireland and further afield. Our print techniques came to the fore during our “Pop Art” style art. They were very effective in our class display.
We also got to engage with a fascinating Podcast called “The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel”. We had to put our detective hats on to solve the case!
We had a brilliant school tour to Emerald Park. Some of our favourite rides were Cú Chulainn and Na Fianna Force. We also got to see some animals in the zoo.
As part of our report genre, we engaged in some online research about our chosen topics using our new set of ipads.

This brought great excitement on World Book Day! 5th Class dressed up as their favourite book characters and they engaged in lots of fun literacy activities to celebrate the day. On Wednesday February 12th , we celebrated Grandparents Day. Firstly. we held a short prayer service in our classrooms followed by some poetry, music & dance. Afterwards, we all enjoyed a cup of tea with some home baked goodies in the hall. We loved chatting our grandparents and showing them our fabulous school and friends!

Term 1

What a busy and eventful term 1 it has been! After a lot of preparation and practice , 5th class performed their Christmas play “Straw and Order” to a packed hall of parents and family members on Wednesday December 18th. They were terrific and deserve great credit for their efforts and enthusiasm. We enjoyed using watercolours to create “Christmas Cars” and we used our fine motor skills to make mini wool hats during art. We had a few sessions of tag rugby on Wednesday mornings with the Buccaneeers when the weather permitted and also did some folk and Irish dance during this term. Both fifth classes paired up with the senior infants to create a campfire reading experience using an array of soft furnishings, candles and fairy lights. It was magical for the younger children. Fifth class pupils did a great job both reading and interacting with them! We wrote narrative stories too during December. Most opted for a Christmas theme and were quite intriguing! The Wellbeing Committee made sure we were fully entertained with music and Irish quizzes done through the medium of Zoom. We also participated in a fun online Maths Quiz. We are looking forward to another jam-packed term!
