This brought great excitement on World Book Day! 5th Class dressed up as their favourite book characters and they engaged in lots of fun literacy activities to celebrate the day. Seachtain na Gaeilge also took place in March. Students enjoyed a Seanfhocail competition, Seó Faisin, Toy Story 1.5 – dramaíocht and a Tráth na gCeist. What a busy and eventful term 1 it has been! After a lot of preparation and practice , 5th class performed their Christmas play “Straw and Order” to a packed hall of parents and family members on Wednesday December 18th. They were terrific and deserve great credit for their efforts and enthusiasm. We enjoyed using watercolours to create “Christmas Cars” and we used our fine motor skills to make mini wool hats during art. We had a few sessions of tag rugby on Wednesday mornings with the Buccaneeers when the weather permitted and also did some folk and Irish dance during this term. Both fifth classes paired up with the senior infants to create a campfire reading experience using an array of soft furnishings, candles and fairy lights. It was magical for the younger children. Fifth class pupils did a great job both reading and interacting with them! We wrote narrative stories too during December. Most opted for a Christmas theme and were quite intriguing! The Wellbeing Committee made sure we were fully entertained with music and Irish quizzes done through the medium of Zoom. We also participated in a fun online Maths Quiz. We are looking forward to another jam-packed term!
On Wednesday February 12th , we celebrated Grandparents Day. Firstly. we held a short prayer service in our classrooms followed by some poetry, music & dance. Afterwards, we all enjoyed a cup of tea with some home baked goodies in the hall. We loved chatting our grandparents and showing them our fabulous school and friends!
