3rd class has had a very busy Term 2! They completed ‘Britain’ group projects where they focused on working together and researching information about it. They then completed fantastic individual projects about Ancient Egypt where they learned about the pharaohs, the pyramids and much more!
For music, the children have been having fun mastering different songs on the tin whistle, including Twinkle Twinkle, Hot Cross Buns and Old Mac Donald along with learning the song Michael Finnegan. Some children are taking part in Music Generation where they learn the viola every Friday.
As part of Active Schools, the children were participating in a Skip Around Europe challenge. They worked hard on perfecting their skipping techniques and really enjoyed ‘travelling all around Europe’.
For Seachtain na Gaeilge, we learned the ‘Haka Gaelach’ and a new dance called ‘An Dreolín’. We performed these in the hall during our céilí on Lá Glas. We learned the song Trasna na dTonnta and really enjoyed singing that for everyone. We got to see Toy Story 1.5 performed by 5th class, watched ‘Seo Faisúin’ by 6th, took part in a Tráth na gCéist and a Kahoot quiz.
We are now looking forward to the Easter break after a very busy term.
3rd class were very busy last term. As part of Heritage in Schools we worked as historians finding out information about Athlone Town. We were lucky to have Martin Curley as our guide for the day.
During Science Week, we investigated and presented experiments- ‘Tornado in a Bottle’ and ‘What causes static electricity?’. We had lots of fun demonstrating the projects to the other classes.
During December, we wrote narrative stories. Our title was ‘The Naughty Elf’. The children came up with brilliant ideas and read their stories aloud to the class.
3rd class performed a Christmas concert called Ralph the Reindeer to the school and their family. They had lots of fun learning the songs with all their actions and lines. They thoroughly enjoyed it all!
We look forward to a jam packed Term 2!
